This is a 4-drone set of border pipes made by Nate Banton in 2011-12 (before he started working with Will Woodson). I am the original owner and am sad to say that for most of the time I’ve had them, they’ve just sat in the box because ultimately, I could never get the hang of the bellows. Now I’m trying to find them a more suitable home with someone who will play them as they deserve to be played.
- 4-drone configuration (alto, tenor, baritone, bass), each with a wooden drone plug/cork so you can select which drones to use for a given tune
- drone shutoff switch (to turn them all on/off at once)
- border pipe chanter in A includes keyed high-B hole; key is pressed with left pinky finger
- additional Scottish smallpipe chanter in D, with C-natural hole drilled at back
- made of sonokeling wood (a cousin to African blackwood… of similar density/tone but much more sustainable as it’s used as a windbreak on Indian tea plantations)
- mounts are made of a combination of Raphia Tae Nut (spotted material in photos) and natural antler (solid-tan material in photos)
- stainless steel ferrules/hardware
- original chanter and drone reeds
ALSO INCLUDES:
- extra cane reed for each chanter (made by Banton)
- custom-made, leather “drone support harness” to manage the position/weight of drones across the player’s chest (attaches to bellows belt; can be removed)
- bellows
- black velvet bag cover
- UPDATE: hard-sided, locking bagpipe case measuring 24.25″ x 12.5″ x 5.5″ (NOTE: the foam inside this is eroding a bit; I will remove/replace the foam and the Scottie-dog fleece with a dark, solid-color fleece prior to sale/shipment)
Buyer splits insured shipping cost.
This is a great opportunity to get a high-quality, low-mileage instrument with zero wait time. (Note that at this time, Banton is no longer taking orders for border pipes.) Please contact me with any questions!
