When you have too many pipes, something has to go. Pipes from the John Chisholm shop.
Ron Bowen of the https://thebagpipemuseum.com says after research,
“These pipes were turned by James Robertson in the Chisholm shop”, possibly made in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Details at https://thebagpipemuseum.com
These pipes were purchased by me from Ron Bowen in 2014. They are pictured on the museums page under John Chisholm.
Ron said they are either African Blackwood or Kingwood, a wood often used by James Robertson.
The wood is highlighted with heart wood in various places.
With nickel silver ferrules and imitation caps.
The blowpipe stock is 19mm, so it easily takes a moose valve.
It also is a gnats hair more narrow than pipes with the Robertson name. In measurements taken, these are as close to a Robertson named pipes as you can get. The tone is very comparable. It is easy to see why they were first thought to be Robertson pipes.
Sticks and Stocks and original blowpipe. No chanter. (see below)..
They easily tune at the hemp line with modern reeds and chanters.
I have been using Colin Kyo chanter and Ezdrone or Rocket drone reeds with these pipes.
Very stable and rich, full tone.
I can add a Lee and Sons sheep skin bag with about 20 hours playing time, tied in and seasoned, a Colin Kyo chanter, and rocket drone reeds for an extra $US 700.
