A wonderful wee time capsule of pipes. Originally sold by The Scottish Shopper to a young piper in the midwest, these pipes saw little use before being packed up and stored for over four decades. Currently set up to play Bb, with Kinnaird drone reeds and old HR Turner chanter reeds that are fun to work with. Blackwood pipes, with catalin mounts, ferrules, and bushes. This chanter is from the time when Robert Hardie was the Pipe Major of Muirhead & Sons Pipe Band, who were sweeping other competitors from the field. Two of the stocks had small under-ferrule cracks that were repaired, and only a couple small dings on the catalin are evident. The blowpipe mount looks like a later addition. These pipes are a sweet set that will produce a sound many of us older folks are nostalgic for: lower pitch, air-efficient, and ample enough for room or rank. Shipping free for lower 48.
