John Dew has just released his new book of music ‘Pipe Tunes’. Since
launching ‘John Dew – Composition’ in 2017,
John’s ‘Tune of the Month’ project resulted in a rising interest in John’s work
and he received commissions from around the world. Many tunes have been
played by the world renowned Inveraray and District Pipe Band, two-time
world champions.
As a composer John composed the music for the three-time RTS
2019 award winning short film ‘What Separates Us from the
Beasts’. Since then he has composed for many other short
films, chamber groups and has completed a series of orchestral
preludes.
John decided to publish this collection off the back of the
success of his debut E.P. ‘The High
Bridge Walk’, a contemporary Folk/Celtic album. This E.P. explores
polyphonic textures of layered whistle tracks and bagpipes and has had
radio plays world-wide and has been sold in two continents.
This new collection of music by John is a culmination of several years work
including some of his earliest compositions. The book contains marches,
dance tunes, complex time tunes and moving slow airs for bagpipes.
