- UK Only – sorry.
- Kenny Pettigrew, a traditional, time served, craftsman bagpipe maker with over 40 years in the trade behind him(starting at Kintail in 1982 under the instruction of his father, James Pettigrew, who trained under Bob Hardie at RG Hardie and served 26 years there, 11 as foreman. Subsequently, they set up in their own business together), made this bespoke, and therefore entirely unique, set of African Blackwood bagpipes at his home workshop in Glasgow.
Externally incorporating my design requests taking inspiration from historical Lawrie/Henderson and Glen features. Kenny made this traditionally hand-turned set over a period of weeks in late spring/early summer 2023 before closing up his workshop. Imitation ivory used in the ringcaps and bushes is probably the best available and was imported from USA specifically for this set. The remaining unused piece is included in case of any future unfortunate mishaps.
The pipes have been played consistently, several times a week since they were made, and there are no indications of any issues with them whatsoever with regard to loose mounts/alloy ferrules. No splits or cracks in the wood externally, or in the bores. Externally the wood has a polished finish, so no peeling varnish, and no dry areas or patches. The original, matching blackwood blow stick is included, this has not been played.
For testing purposes they are currently fitted to/with, and I’ll include if wanted, a Bannatyne Willie McCallum zipper hybrid bag, zipped blue velvet cover, black ‘silk style’ cords and a set of Ezeedrone drone reeds, a Warnock poly’ wide bore, blowstick with Free Flow(elliptical opening), mouthpiece and built-in valve, and a universal angle blowstick.
£650 GBP
Interested? You’re welcome to come and try them out.
At the moment I could include an African Blackwood McCallum McC2 solo pipe chanter at extra cost of £100.
