Vintage set circa 1972 to early 1980s.
Gillanders pipes bagpipes known for bold, rich tone and steadiness.
This set of pipes has been restored including: 3 new ABW stocks for bass drone, blowpipe and chanter; replaced bass drone cap ring; cleaned, ferrules polished, all bits inspected, oiled and new waxed black hemp installed for all joints; new flapper valve installed; new blowpipe mouthpiece.
The drone bores are mirror smooth polished and straight.
Reed seats and tenon combing/hemp retainers very good condition.
No warping or cracks!
The blowpipe has a large bore 3/8” internal diameter and a new large bore mouthpiece.
Original finish is intact.
“Gillanders & McLeod” stamped in all of the drone cord guides.
All parts are combed and beaded. Beading is the small miniature bead between combings and one miniature bead between the cord guides and drone tops.
The ABW is dense and the set ( without chanter) weighs a solid feeling 3.99 lbs.
Blowpipe length ( bottom of mount to mouthpiece tip) is 9 3/4”.
Disclosures
This set of pipes has been used but not abused over the years. Typical of pipe band wear and tear…the tenor drone caps have a few minor chips, the bass drone middle projected mount has a chip (see pics). I am including a set of matching tenor drone cap rings along with the pipes …in case you decide to have them installed. The ABW finish shows some small abrasions that do not show up in pics.
Overall…a fine set of bagpipes that are ready for use.
