After much thought, I have decided to sell my Marr « Robertson-style » pipes. The instrument was made from African Blackwood by Derek Marr in 2023. It features nickel engraved ferrules and drone caps (slides are plain nickel), large « mushroom » projecting mounts so typical of Robertson pipes, and a brass-lined blowpipe. The pipes are in mint condition, and have been played, waxed and oiled on a regular basis. The profile is angular and weighty, and the bores are Marr’s own, based on Center. I will spare you the « sound description clichés »… however, those who own or have heard Marr pipes in recent years know that they are outstanding instruments. Over the years, I have noticed that the tone of these pipes can be « customized » depending on the reeds used. I’m currently using Ezeedrones and find things perfect for indoor playing. BHTRs or Kinnairds will give more volume, depending on setup, of course. This pipe also loves cane reeds, and the bass won’t tune half a hair above the mount at the modern pitch… Reason for sale : at 66 and with a heart condition, I can no longer keep 4 sets going, and want to enjoy my two 1920 Robertsons as much as I can for whatever piping time I’ve got left. New, the cost of this instrument is 1595 £ or 1330 £ excluding the UK VAT. The latter price (no VAT…) corresponds to approximately $2525 Canadian, $2550 Australian, 1555 €, or $1815 USD + Trump tariffs. Asking $ 1995 Canadian or $1450 USD for sticks and stocks + shipping from Ottawa ON K1C 7A8 + any applicable tariffs that must be paid upfront + fees associated with payment methods such as PayPal. Interac payments from Canadian banks have no extra fees. A new medium Canmore hybrid bag can be included for an extra $ 225 CAD. The bag shown in the picture is a medium-extended Canmore hybrid which has been used for about 6 months. It is perfectly airtight, I’m a non-smoker, and I drink only quality whisky.
