Incredibly rare George S. McLennan cocuswood reel/parlour pipes. The set would date to the early/mid-20’s and are fully combed and beaded, with wooden projection mounts and imitation ferrules, ring caps and bushings. The ferrules have been replaced by Dunbar and the bores are arrow straight and the wood is in good condition. There are two small repairs to the sole and bulb of the chanter, neither impacts the playability or tone. These pipes were either turned by McLennan’s shop on Bath Street in Aberdeen or contracted out to Henderson and then retailed by McLennan, either way they are a beautiful instrument in their own right. The chanter is stamped “GEO S McLENNAN” and underneath that “ABERDEEN”. All parts are original to the set, with the exception of the blowpipe which is a period correct replacement. There is also a beautiful dovetail, mahogany custom pipe case. It should be noted that while they are stunning, vintage set, there are fully playable instrument. The stocks are quite wide at the bottom, so they fit in modern grommet bags with the help of an O-ring and hose clamp. I have included a picture beside a full-size tenor drone to give you a sense of the scale.
