Selling my set of Duncan MacRaes GHB, age is 1910s-1920s.
Full size set with wood mounted projecting mounts, Ivory tops and nickel ferrules and slides. Reason I’m selling is purely because I just got another set that’s an exact match to this one but with little work needed.
About the set:
Sounds amazing, and doesn’t tune too high or low, adjusts very well to modern tone and tuning. Again, I would have kept it if it weren’t for the other set. But its also the reason why I wanted a close match to this one.
Not sure how many owners there are but a couple I do know, are some well respected pipers in our world that owned these at one point.
Wood is either a very, very dark black wood or ebony. The ivory is well aged and in great shape, a fair amount of nickel ferrules look to be replacements and all stocks have at least 1, to 2-3 cracks in them.
The middle tenor top has a small crack in the middle on each side. Getting that piece whipped would be the best route for the repair.
A couple of mounts were cracked but repaired and one unscrews but its secure once threaded all the way, a little hemp would be fine too. All other sticks are straight and crack free from my observance while playing them for a couple of months.
The bass bottom is original, but doesn’t have the slide. Don’t know the reason for the removal.
The bass midjoint has some dents on the slide, but the pin is fine and works as it should and both the tenor slides were cut and worked to be used for hemping, they are original as they do have the patent numbers. Other than that, a very lovely set to play once its set up and the kinks are worked out. Sticks and stocks only, no blowpipe present.
Selling for less than what I paid for them considering the cracks and such that I found during my time with them and I want to be fair.
