A beautiful set of 1930s Peter Henderson bagpipes with full Ivory and Silver slides (silver added post original sale. I originally bought them in June 2007 from Tom Spiers in Edinburgh and played them until a few years ago.
Tom Speirs won the Highland Society of London’s Gold Medal (1980) and Clasp (1983) for piobaireachd at the Northern Meeting. At the Argyllshire Gathering he was frequent runner-up in the medal, but he made his name in light-music also, particularly marches. Called “Abercairney Tom” for being closely-identified with that complex, prize-winning tune, Speirs won the marches at Oban in 1975, and then the Strathspey & Reel there, too, in 1976. He subsequently gained prizes in the Former Winners MSR contests at both events.
They’re highly sough after so I’m sad to let them go, but I’m selling them because I don’t play them anymore and an instrument of this quality deserves to be played. I’m also selling the following items with it:
- Mccallum chanter
- Canmore bag
- Reed protector
- Drone Cord silk
- Hardie Flexstick
- Bag cover
- Bannatyne Water Trap
- Bagpiper bagpipe bag
- Scots Guard tune books Volume 1 & 2
There are also a couple of Easy Drone tenor reeds, a Cane bass reed, a chanter reed and some tape too. All items were recently viewed and confirmed to be in good working order at The National Piping Center in Glasgow.
Looking for a UK sale due to the Ivory fittings, £4,500 for just the sticks.
