Offered here is a fine and characterful set of 19th-century Highland bagpipes, dating from approximately 1870–1900. Crafted in ebony with natural mounts, this is an attractive and well-balanced set thought to be from the transitional period between Thomas Glen and J. & R. Glen.
The pipes were recently given a full professional refresh by Dunbar Bagpipes, who carried out high-quality, invisible whipping repairs to a couple of minor cracks—an elegant solution that replaced older, less refined repairs from a past maker. The stocks are not original to the set and appear to be of artificial ivory, but they marry well with the instrument and complement its overall aesthetic.
Sonically, the drones deliver a smooth, rich, and well-blended tone—full of the warmth and presence collectors and players alike appreciate from this era of Glen craftsmanship.
The pipes are being sold as “sticks and stocks”, though a bag, cords, and chanter can be included by separate arrangement if desired.
A rare chance to acquire a handsome, restored antique set with both musical and historical pedigree.
Many thanks for your interest,
