3-drone, 7-key NSP in ‘trad pitch’. Materials are blackwood./brass/natural.
Brass ferrules are tapered from sheet stock. 2 Chanter keys are marked “Burleigh” and “2550”, but the workmanship is exponentially higher than that of any of his other instruments that I’ve yet seen. (I still wonder if he made the keys as replacements for an older chanter – and when I first examined the drones I wondered if I’d lucked onto an undiscovered Reid set).
I showed these pipes to a prominent collector and authority on English/Scots Bellows pipes (If you’re an LBPS member you’d recognize his name) and he believes that the drones are quite a bit older than David Burleigh’s time.
A set of bellows made by the late Nigel Richards ( http://www.garviebagpipes.co.uk/) is now included with this bagpipe – they’re a bit larger than the usual ‘NSP’ bellows, so you’ll have no shortage of air!
Drone reeds (brass/polystyrene composite) and cane chanter reed by Mike Sharp.
I had bought these from a well-known piper with the intent to restore them, but I never managed to muster the time – and, let’s face it, the skill…so as they’ve sat idle for years and so will need a bit of fettling.
Price is in Canadian dollars.
My reason for this sale? I haven’t played ANY of my pipes in years, it’s getting on time to ‘reduce my estate’ so that my heirs don’t have to, and – most importantly – pipes should be appreciated and played rather than gathering dust!
