Vintage Breton Biniou Koz in ‘G.’
I purchased this from bagpipe builder Kevin Kehrly (PA) in the early 1990s. I’m not sure where he got it. The Biniou is made of boxwood with bone mounts and lead inlay. My guess is that this was made in the first half of the 20th century.
The original bag was replaced by Ken Kehrly. I re-fabricated the blowpipe and the chanter stock from boxwood (just like the original). Mouthpiece is imitation ivory. The reeds and blowpipe valve are synthetic replacements. I’ll include the original blowpipe (I’m not sure what happened to the original chanter stock).
Because the Biniou is such a shrill instrument I typically played this with a custom made Cornemuse style chanter in G from a different set of pipes.
I no longer play and would love to see this instrument in the hands of someone who will appreciate it.
