Pics now updated.
All taken with flash, giving a fairly good representation of the actual colour. Artificial room light made the boxwood look very orange, which is not correct.
Sticks, stocks and cords only, bag and case will be extra.
Not sure of the maker (no markings) but remind me of a standard, plain turned, Piobmhor set I had about 15 years ago. However, cannot confirm. As for their age, again speculative, but I reckon easily late 1990’s, so 25 years old or so.
African Blackwood, plain turned, full Highland bagpipes, with boxwood (not totally convinced, but that’s what info I have) ferrules, mounts and drone caps/bushes. Chalice topped design.
These are not highly polished, just cleaned, waxed and buffed. No lacquer on these pipes.
I have had a bag on these (as with any set I have, to make sure they’re sounding nice) and the drones are very sweet. The reed seat has been bored out somewhat in the past, likely to get cane drones right up to sharpen them. With extra hemp and Black Diamond Drone Reeds, these are sharp enough. To my mind, they are just that little bit different and if it weren’t for the fact I have now got 6 sets, I would likely keep these. But, they need played and 2 sets for that task is plenty for me (yes, I have at least 2 sets that will be sold on, the lovely David Booth set already listed).
ISSUE – the matching blowstick was a button mount, so this has now been rectified with pequia wood (aka ivory wood) which was the closest match, although the original mounts, etc., show signs of age with marbling, more than the new pequia, which is not a bad colour match.
Small ding on the bass drone ring cap.
And, there are slight cracks around the bottom of the blowstick, but once hemped up does not affect the performance. I checked a little mac valve was working and the blowstick was not leaking. I used my poly valved blowstick to test these pipes.
No chanter, case or bag. These are available at extra cost, just ask.
I’m not adverse to a very near offer, or a deal for cash and a wooden long practice chanter (a Piobmhor would be really nice!)
