Circa 2013, this is a beautiful example of Murray Huggins’ work. This innovative design (birchwood laminate) plays very similarly to a blackwood chanter, but is sturdier and less susceptible to climate differentials and with its own unique character. You really feel this thing vibrate under your fingers in a way you don’t get from poly.
These have a bit of a cult following and are out of production. The nickel band is a nice subtle embellishment to the grain pattern you get from the lamination process. The pictures speak for themselves. I’ve gotten a lot of questions about this thing when people see it.
Hole spacing is not dissimilar to a modern infinity chanter. Pitches happily 478-480. Likes most ridge cut reeds. The reed seat is a bit different than many other makes. Expect to use a bit more hemp on your reed than most other chanters. Usually takes minimum tape except for the high-g.
