David Brae – The chanter is stamped “D Brae Glasgow” although it’s more carved than stamped. The Catalin sole matches the Catalin on the rings/bushes however the sole has come loose, and somebody glued it back into place upside down. I’ve tried to loosen it unsuccessfully. Nickel ferrules are heavy gauge and soldered. According to Jeannie Campbell, David Brae may have worked for Duncan MacRae. The profile of the drones is more in line with Grainger and Campbell than MacRae. We know that G&C acquired MacRae in 1952/1953. Perhaps David Brae was employed by G&C for a period before striking out on his own. I have not been able to find additional information on Brae.
African Blackwood with nickel ferrules and Catalin rings and bushings. No blowpipe.
