For sale, a Peter Henderson bagpipe purchased new by me in early 1960s. African Blackwood. Originally with Catalin mounts. While living in Australia, Arthur Wright installed silver and ivory reportedly reclaimed from a Henderson bagpipe. The ivory is stamped PH with Glasgow hallmarks. The silver has been tested and confirmed to be 92.5% pure silver (sterling). See attached letter. In the interest of full disclosure, a recent opinion is that the silver may not have come from a Henderson bagpipe and perhaps was fashioned by Wright himself. However, comparison of the silver engraving on a sold Henderson set on this website shows the same thistle pattern and engraving. The set is in very good condition with two small cracks in the ivory mounts (see photos). The chanter is a J. Robertson with silver sole. The set comes with the original wooden carrying box with several bag covers, corks and reeds.
I have played these pipes in several bands and in competitions over the past 50 years. They have a beautiful tone and will provide many more years of enjoyment to the next owner. Contact me with any questions at [email protected].
