This is a custom set (stamped with the makers mark No. 50 on the bass drone stock) made from select cocobolo with olive mounts, ferrules and ring caps, by Ross Morrill for me in the winter of 2020. The drones are based on a combination of 1909 Henderson’s (bass) and pre-1900 Glens (tenors), and come with a split blowpipe stock which can accommodate a moose valve should you want to install one.
They have been played regularly in open/professional competitions for the last 2.5 years, are easy to lock, stable, and unique in many ways. Ross has a tremendous attention to detail and works diligently to produce a top sounding instrument. The drones integrate very well with each other as well as the chanter and produce what feels like a very smooth but warm and broad sound.
