This set of Great Highland bagpipes were made by Henry Starck.
Henry Starck was born to a German woodwind maker who immigrated to London around 1810. In the late 1800’s, the Queen’s Piper, William Ross, asked Henry Starck to make bagpipes for him. Starck agreed and then carried on its own pipemaking company until 1962.
On the tuning pins is stamped “H.Starck, Late W.Ross, London.” The estimated production year is 1910. One of the tuning pins appears to be a replacement.
This set comes in a silver, padded, hardshell bagpipe case. Included is a Gibson Polpenco chanter, Gibson Polypenco adjustable blowpipe with imitation ivory mount, Shepherd Regulator bag with tone enhancers, black bag with red fringe and red silk cord. I am also including a Gibson Polypenco practice chanter.
