Heriot and Allen Border Pipe in Bb.
Drones are Laburnum with horn ferrules and caps. ABW chanter. Drones Bass/Tenor/Alto with turned end-plugs. Original composite (brass body/cane tongue) drone reeds plus a set of Ezeedrone reeds. Early Nigel Richards (Garvie Bagpipes) bellows.
This is a wonderful instrument with a rich, mellow tone. The chanter has a ‘full’ tone – not at all ‘reedy’ – and can be ‘cross-fingered’. these pipes are very efficient and not at all ‘air-hungry’, and they are very steady.
I think that I remember Robbie Greensitt telling me that he had used the Glen tooling (reamers etc) at the time that he made these pipes – they certainly have something of the Glen sound to them, but more mellow as a result of them being turned in Laburnum rather than tropical tonewood.
I’m selling them because I no longer play, and these pipes deserve to be played rather than sit on a shelf.
