This is a 3/4 set of bagpipes in concert Bb (466) made from cocobolo and imitation ivory by Roddy MacLellan. The drones are made in Roddy’s “Waterloo Pipes” pattern.
I purchased this set new from Roddy in April of 2021. Reeded with Ezeedrone long reeds and a Shepherd Bb chanter reed, they play spot-on in Bb, and they are very steady and easy to play. Roddy has managed to make a great set of quieter pipes without sacrificing a great, distinctly GHB tone to both the drones and chanter. I would describe the volume as about halfway between a set of border pipes and GHB. They are perfect for practicing in a small space where volume could be an issue, for playing in smaller indoor venues, or for playing in a “folk” setting with other instruments.
They’re great fun, but I’ve moved into a larger house, so volume is less of an issue for me now, and I have a set of smallpipes on order that I need some extra cash to pay for.
