For sale is this lovely, well made set of pipes, manufactured by McLeod Highland Supplies in c. 1990s.
The pipes are made in African Blackwood, with Catalin mounts and caps/bushes, and nickel ferrules. The original poly pipe chanter and accompanying practice chanter are also included in this sale, both stamped clearly below the bulb.
This set is in good overall condition, with only a handful of instances of minor cosmetic damage. Most notably, there is a crack to one of the catalin ringcaps on a tenor top. There are some chips to the catalin elsewhere on the pipes, however these are of course superficial and do not detract from the performance or overall aesthetic appeal of the instrument. The timber used on these pipes has a gorgeous reddish appearance, which comes through beautifully in daylight.
The bass mid-joint has had a pin replacement, which has been carried out beautifully and is entirely indetectable. In addition to this, there is a hairline crack underneath the ferrule of the bass mid, which has been sealed, and is stable, being held firm by the nickel ferrule. It was not deemed necessary to have this whipped under the ferrule, although potential buyers may seek to do so if desired.
McLeod pipes such as this are known to be quality instruments, and they are suitable for playing at the highest level. This set is priced to suit any player seeking a dependable, quality bagpipe at an affordable price.
