I have for sale my set of MacRae SL1 bagpipes made by the McCallum Company. This set has been in my possession for 2 years now, and have been regularly oiled and kept in a case with a humidifier.
They are made of beautiful African Blackwood. There are sections of the grain on this set that really shine when the sun hits them, I’ve attached a photo on this listing. . The projecting mounts are also Blackwood, and the whole set is reminiscent of an old set of Hardie’s or Robertsons. They also have alloy ferrules and imitation ivory rings.
The middle tenor is a different bore diameter than the outer, for a greater breadth of tenor tone. I’ve always gotten compliments on how this set sounds when I have played them in public. They pitch comfortably from 474-480, but I have put Bb reeds in them and they fired right up and sat at 466 reliably. These are rock solid pipes.
I am selling these because I currently have a set of MacLellan Waterloo pipes being made (I prefer the chalice tops and historical look), and I don’t believe in hoarding pipes. I can only play one set at a time, and so I would like these to go to a good home. These pipes are light weight, reliable, durable, and tonally they are second to none. Great for a beginner looking for their first set, or an experienced player looking for a gorgeous set to add to their arsenal. These pipes also currently list at $1,799 new at Henderson Imports, and with the new tariff policies and shipping restrictions currently in place, that price is likely to increase.
Selling as sticks and stocks only. Local pickup is preferred, but I will happily ship anywhere in the continental United States at the buyers expense.
