I am selling my first ever set of Highland pipes – it’s a set by McCallum vintage ~1998. I am selling because I have an heirloom quality Atherton set and these have been sitting in a closet unplayed. They are a very plain but attractive set with nickel ferrules and the wood is uncombed with blackwood and artificial ivory mounts. The set includes two blowpipes – the original blackwood one that came with the set and a polypenco airstream one. Plastic McCallum chanter, Wygent Duatone drone reeds, chanter cap, and also includes an unused Gannaway medium zip pipe bag. The chanter stock is in the bag already but the others are not in so you can adjust them how you want them. The set will come in a Piper’s Pac bagpipe case.
The set does have some wear (see pics of small chips) to the outside from ~20 years of loving use, but tonally these have no impact on the set and the inside of the pipes are in good shape. They were regularly oiled when in use. I played them in the Grade 1 Worlds Qualifier, so despite a simple look, they’re quite a playable set and with all the extras, I believe at a great price. This would be the perfect set for a new student!
