Custom set of highland pipes made by Ross Morrill of Morrill Bagpipes here in Utah, USA. Drones hand turned from select Chechen wood (Black Poisonwood) with beautiful Gaboon Ebony mounts, ferrules, rings and flat drone top bushes. This is set #83 and is stamped with the makers mark and number on the bass drone stock. Discreet comb and beading design featured on the drone profiles, but still allows the beautiful flame pattern of the wood to shine through. Custom matched split blowpipe stock with Moose Valve installed, but can be removed for cleaning. Blowpipe is brass lined to avoid cracking with new Frazer Warnock free flow oval mouthpiece.
Bores are based from Ross’s signature “Hybrid Design.” Bass internals are from a 1909 set of Henderson’s with the Tenor internals from a pre-1900 set of David Glens. Literally the best of both worlds. The blend and harmonics coming from the drones blend seamlessly, lock in and don’t move. The chanter and drone blend is the best I’ve experienced from any set of pipes I’ve owned. They work brilliantly with any modern drone reed combination.
Ross is one of the few pipe makers in the world that specializes in select, instrument grade hardwoods from all over the world. Each design is unique and one-off. Not the “cookie-cutter” profile that one sees everywhere else.
Purchased in the fall of 2022. Excellent condition overall. No dings or scratches to the wood. Sold as “Sticks & Stocks” only. No chanter or bag.
