Piobmor Ca 1950
Materials: African Blackwood – Trad. Natural mounts
These bagpipes were owned by P/M Ron Clement OAM (Clan McLeod Pipe Band Sydney). His widow has asked me to sell them on her behalf. (PM Robert Pearce).
These pipes are in excellent condition for their age, with no apparent cracks in the timber. The mounts are traditional natural material and show some slight discolouration and light radial marks which are to be expected in an instrument of its age. The Bass Drone bottom section may not be original as the mounts seem slightly different in profile but the bore is consistent with the make.
The drones produce a lovely mellow tone and I would say this is a superior instrument in sound, following the Henderson tradition.
Some history
In 1947 Jack Dunbar (an excellent craftsman who held true to the Henderson bagpipe that he knew when first apprenticed at Henderson’s), Thomas Liddell and John Maitland left Henderson Bagpipes and formed Piobmor Highland Industries Ltd. (Glasgow) which operated until 1951.
During their time at Piobmor they made what was essentially a ‘Henderson’ bagpipe. They were later joined by John Weatherstone and Robert (R.G.) Hardie.
An important note: Piobmor bagpipes are very different from Piob Mhor bagpipes. Many owners confuse the two and may not be aware of the difference.
Sorry but due to CITES restrictions the pipes are available to Aussie buyers only.
