For sale is a near mint set of R.G. Hardie bagpipes that are looking for an appreciative home. They consist of African blackwood with toffee coloured catalin trim. The age appears to be from the late 1950s or early 1960s. Hardie pipes from this era are respected for their quality and acoustic properties. As a classic vintage set, these pipes are a time capsule. They could be pipes for life for their new owner.
R. G. Hardie Bagpipes have been the choice of military pipe bands and proudly owned by pipers worldwide.
Items for sale include sticks and stocks, original blowpipe and the original pipe chanter. The African blackwood does not have any chips, cracks, splits or chips and the finish is clear and unmarred. The catalin projecting mounts, ring caps, ferrules and bushings do not possess any chips or cracks. They have a warm honey coloured patina that is pleasing to the eye and indicative of their age.
A close examination of the chanter stock will reveal a cosmetic manufacturer’s flaw where the cutting tool left a scratch going from the combing into the groove. (The scratch is visible in the blowpipe/chanter stock photo. The photographer mixed up the stocks. My apologies for that.) The scratch isn’t visible when installed in a bag.
The pipe chanter shows slight out of round carving at the D-hole. The inclusion of the chanter maintains the integrity of the set.The asking price reflects these elements and takes them into account.
The pipes have received a series of oil treatments of which the buyer may consider continuing.
These are available for the firm and fair price of $1,100 Canadian plus shipping if pickup isn’t available. A sale to the US could be negotiable.
Thank you.
