The Hardie chanter was the choice of almost all of the top solo and band competitors from the second half of the 20th Century.
Likely produced in the 1970’s, this example is in good shape, with no apparent alterations, and mounted with a classic Catalin plastic sole. It plays quite well with a carefully chosen chanter reed, with just a slight tendency to sharpness on D and High G, and a subtly flat B, sitting at a lower pitch than is standard today. (466-470hz)
The tone and intonation is very old fashioned, reminiscent of some of the ‘Worlds Greatest Pipers’ albums that feature the all time greats, such as Iain MacFadyen, John D. Burgess, P/M Angus MacDonald, etc.
