I am selling a few of my remaining Scottish piping items from years past. These are some of the last items I have remaining from a large collection I sold off over the years. I owned some very fine vintage pipes, all ivory (some with silver) and from top makers. Many photos of my pipes ended up on Ringo Bowen’s Bagpipe Makers Website.
This chanter I have owned for about 25 years. The Date code is from 2005 and the silver maker is Dalman & Narborough of Edinborough, makers of fine silver and military. The chanter has a polypenco mouthpiece, stamped silver mouthpiece sleeve, ferrule and sole. The pattern is the traditional thistle design. The silver markings are the initials D&N and 925 within an oval. The rampant lion, The castle mark for Edinburgh and the date code, small F. The bulb is ivory, the wood a very fine and dark blackwood. There are no cracks in the wood to mounts and just minor marks on the mouthpiece. I would consider this excellent plus condition. Although I no longer have a reed to supply, the chanter is certainly playable, I cannot attest to the pitch, but the silver is dated 2005 for reference, so i would guess rather modern.
The lower section of the chanter measures 10.5 inches in length and the upper measures 8.5″. Total length is 17″. The sole has a diameter of 1 7/8″. Additional photos are available.
The price is $900 including recorded shipping in the USA.
I also have a Fine Gentleman’s Cairngorm Highland Dirk with fork and knife for sale as well. Other Scottish silver military broaches are available. I consider all of these items to be fine collector’s items. Shipping in the USA only.
