For sale is a Vintage Officer’s Gordon Highlanders Military Issue Plaid Brooch from my collection of Scottish Military. Over 20 years ago I began collecting military issue uniforms, badges, dirks along with pipes that I then played. I am now selling off my badges and will be selling artwork and other items as well.
This Plaid Brooch was produced by Firmin & Sons of Birmingham, England (est. 1655). They produced military accoutrements and uniforms for the regiments and do to this day. Their website is Firminhouse.com.
This Gordon Highlander’s brooch measures 3 1/2″ across and is silver plate over metal. The Stag’s Head and Motto, BYDAND (Stand Your Ground) are cast separately then the honors ribbons that encircle it. Both are finished in matt silver to stand off from the polished silver plate base. In flipping this to the back you can see how these parts are fixed with pins. This was an expensive method requiring extra handwork and expenses that was not required of pins used by the general ranks.
On the edge of the inner circle on the back is the impression F & S. The dimensions of the broach are 3 1/2″ diameter and about 7/8″ – 1″ depth. This has been worn by military before my purchase so does show very slight wear. I believe the brooch to date to the 1950’s thru 1970’s. The back of the brooch has been left unpolished.
The price for the Highlander’s Brooch is $350.00 and additional $25.00 will be the cost of shipping in a sturdy box, insurance and a signature confirmation .
Please excuse the difference in color as these photos were taken at two different times of day.
