A rare opportunity to own a stunning set of vintage Peter Henderson bagpipes. These drones date to the mid-sixties when Greig Sharp, as shop manager, brought the brand back to prominence. Fully combed and beaded blackwood, retrofit with Naill aged imitation ivory projection mounts, ferrules, ring caps and bushings (no CITES issues). Had Naill strip and refinish the wood while they were there (receipts provided). The drones are stamped “P Henderson Ltd.” below the cord guides on all three drone tops and also just below the projection mount on the bass mid-section. The pipes come with the original pipe chanter, as well as an R. G. Hardie Infinity polypenco pipe chanter with cap. A set of Canning Drone reeds are also included.
The pipes are in excellent condition, free of any chips or cracks, and the bores are smooth and laser straight, producing a classic Henderson sound, with harmonious tenors and dominant bass. The pipes come with a Lee & Sons zippered cowhide pipe bag (will probably need seasoning, as it sat around a while), an installed moose valve, a set of Hylands inline adjustable drone valves (not installed), a zippered bag cover and matching cords.
This is an absolutely stunning, legacy instrument!
Asking $4,200 CDN/$3,000 USD. Will ship, with appropriate insurance, at buyer’s expense. Local sale will include a pipe case.
